The Functional Safety Engineer (FSE) at indie plays a key role within our design organization and is central to our automotive safety culture. In this position, the FSE leads and advocates for the functional safety lifecycle across projects, ensuring our designs and processes meet all relevant automotive safety standards. **JOB RESPONSIBILITIES** * Analyze top\-level safety requirements and safety goals at the stakeholder level * Develop technical safety concepts and technical safety requirements for products * Work with the System Architect to refine system architecture and detailed safety mechanism descriptions * Derive hardware (HW) and software (SW) safety requirements from technical safety requirements * Collaborate with design teams to define effective technical solutions that achieve system, HW, and SW robustness in compliance with functional safety standards * Create safety analysis work products (System FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, DFA, etc.) * Monitor safety verification and validation activities * Support customer inquiries and reviews related to functional safety topics and work products * Cooperate with the Functional Safety Manager (FSM), global FuSa teams, and external contractors as needed * Support design engineering with impact analysis of design changes and ensure continued functional safety compliance * Support internal and external safety assessment reviews **JOB REQUIREMENTS** * 5\+ years of experience in the semiconductor industry (e.g., design, test, or quality); highly motivated and capable early\-career candidates are also encouraged to apply * BS or MS in Natural Sciences, Applied Physics, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering * Strong manufacturing, quality engineering, and data analysis skills * Strong interpersonal and communication skills * Reliable, detail\-oriented, and customer\-focused mindset with strong documentation skills * Strong understanding of ISO 26262 and automotive engineering principles * Experience creating safety documents (Safety Concepts, FMEA, FMEDA, DFA, FTA) **QUALIFICATIONS** * Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., JAMA) * Knowledge of product development lifecycles for systems, electrical, or software development * Strong technical leadership, planning, and organizational skills * ISO 26262 certification is a plus * Experience with safety analysis tools (e.g., Medini) is a plus * Self\-motivated with the ability to develop creative solutions * Familiarity with automotive standards (e.g., IATF 16949, VDA 6\.3\) is a plus * Ability to travel internationally as required indie Semiconductor and its subsidiaries are equal opportunity, inclusive employers and will consider all applicants without regard to age, ancestry, color, marital status, medical condition, mental or physical disability, national origin, race, religion, political and/or third\-party affiliation, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, military or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
