That’s how we continue to achieve extraordinary things in extraordinary locations. **Job description:** **Environmental Superintendent** **LOCATION:** Initially based with the project team in Salta, with regular travel to operational areas; the role will transition primarily to site as the project progresses. **Role Summary** ------------------- The Environmental Superintendent will establish, implement, and continuously improve the site’s Environmental Management System (EMS), translating obligations derived from the ESIA/EIA, permits and approvals, lender requirements, corporate standards, and industry best practices into operational controls. The role provides leadership in compliance, risk management, monitoring, contractor management, permitting support, rehabilitation planning, and stakeholder engagement, working closely with mine development planners, construction leadership, and operational teams. **Key Responsibilities** --------------------------- * Develop and lead the site’s EMS and environmental governance, including policies, procedures, standards, work instructions, management plans, roles, responsibilities, document control, key performance indicators (KPIs), and reporting—aligned with EIA commitments, permits, legislation, corporate standards, IFC Performance Standards, and the Equator Principles. * Work in continuous, close coordination with Social, Hydrogeology, Legal, and Permitting teams; attend meetings to explain technical aspects, assist in problem resolution, translate permitting requirements into field controls; maintain the operational obligations register; support permit amendments, modifications, renewals, legal reports, inspections, audits, and agency engagement; and ensure compliance. * Establish risk assessments for all project phases and controls for air and dust; surface and groundwater; waste and hazardous materials; noise and vibrations; biodiversity and habitat; soil disturbance and rehabilitation; erosion and sedimentation; tailings; and waste rock. Integrate these risks into operational risk systems. * Maintain the EIA commitments and approvals register; incorporate mitigation measures into engineering, construction, operations, and contractor requirements; verify implementation and effectiveness through inspections, monitoring, and audits; and track commitments to closure. * Develop and manage monitoring programs for water quality, biodiversity, air quality, noise and vibrations, and soil disturbance and rehabilitation. Analyze and report data, identify trends, implement corrective actions, and prepare internal and external performance reports. * Lead environmental management during construction: define scope requirements for contractors; conduct contractor due diligence; review contractor plans; coordinate inductions and training; complete inspections and audits; monitor performance and compliance; and ensure controls are in place prior to commencement of works. * Develop incident response and reporting procedures; investigate incidents, non-conformances, and permit exceedances; conduct root cause analysis; implement corrective and preventive actions; meet regulatory and corporate reporting requirements; and maintain incident records and trend analyses. * Develop audit and inspection programs; assess compliance with permits, legislation, corporate standards, and management plans; coordinate external assurance reviews; and track corrective actions to closure. * Build and lead the site environmental team through training and coaching, fostering a proactive, continuous improvement, and environmentally responsible culture across all departments and contractors. **Qualifications and Experience** -------------------------------- ### **Education** * University degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, hydrogeology, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, or related disciplines. * Postgraduate qualifications in environmental management or sustainability are valued. ### **Experience** * 10 years’ experience in environmental management within mining or large-scale infrastructure. * Experience in developing and implementing Environmental Management Systems. * Demonstrated experience managing EIA commitments and compliance with environmental permits. * Experience working on greenfield projects and managing environmental aspects during the construction phase. * Solid understanding of environmental monitoring programs and regulatory compliance systems. * Experience managing environmental contractors and consultants. ### **Desirable** * Experience in mining construction and operations. * Experience working under international lender standards. * Experience with large-scale open-pit or underground mining projects. * Exposure to mine closure and rehabilitation planning.
