You will work directly with customer engineering teams to migrate Java applications, modernize legacy platforms, upgrade frameworks, resolve dependency issues, remediate security vulnerabilities, and integrate transformation workflows into existing delivery pipelines. The challenge goes far beyond upgrading a single application. Enterprise customers may operate hundreds or thousands of repositories with different Java versions, Spring Boot releases, build configurations, testing standards, deployment models, and internal dependencies. You will help inventory and segment these environments, establish repeatable migration patterns, execute pilot programs, automate common transformations, and resolve the edge cases that cannot be addressed through standard processes. This is a hands\-on engineering role requiring recent and demonstrable experience with Java, builds, dependencies, testing, CI/CD, and production troubleshooting. **What You’ll Be Doing** ------------------------ ### **Assess Application Portfolios** * Analyze large portfolios of Java applications and repositories. * Identify Java versions, Spring Boot versions, frameworks, libraries, and build configurations. * Map direct and transitive dependencies across applications. * Detect outdated components, security risks, incompatible libraries, and migration blockers. * Group applications by complexity, business criticality, architecture, and migration readiness. * Define measurable migration baselines and completion criteria. ### **Execute Java and Framework Migrations** * Upgrade applications from legacy Java versions to Java 17, Java 21, or newer supported versions. * Modernize Spring Boot and related enterprise frameworks. * Migrate or refactor legacy monolithic applications. * Support transitions from outdated platforms and architectures. * Resolve deprecated APIs, removed modules, framework incompatibilities, and breaking changes. * Adapt build configurations, runtime parameters, and deployment artifacts. * Validate application behavior after each migration stage. ### **Build Repeatable Migration Processes** * Create migration patterns that can be reused across multiple repositories. * Define pilot repositories and incremental rollout strategies. * Automate repetitive code and configuration changes. * Apply deterministic transformations where reliability and repeatability are required. * Establish controls for testing, observability, approvals, and rollback. * Track migration progress, failures, exceptions, and unresolved edge cases. * Prevent big\-bang migrations by promoting staged and evidence\-based delivery. ### **Troubleshoot Builds and Dependencies** * Diagnose Maven and Gradle build failures. * Resolve conflicts involving direct and transitive dependencies. * Work with dependency trees, constraints, exclusions, and version alignment. * Troubleshoot classpath, packaging, plugin, and compilation issues. * Support multi\-module builds and internal dependency structures. * Work with private Maven repositories and enterprise artifact\-management systems. * Investigate cases where builds pass but applications fail at runtime. ### **Integrate Migration Work into CI/CD** * Integrate migration and transformation workflows into enterprise pipelines. * Troubleshoot failures across commit, build, test, packaging, and deployment stages. * Work with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or comparable platforms. * Collaborate on branching, pull\-request, code\-review, and rollback strategies. * Work with Docker, artifact repositories, cloud environments, and quality gates. * Automate validation and repeatable pipeline checks across repositories. ### **Testing, Security, and Quality** * Define migration testing strategies covering unit, integration, smoke, and regression testing. * Validate functional and technical behavior after runtime or framework upgrades. * Remediate CVEs affecting direct and transitive dependencies. * Analyze security\-tool findings and distinguish valid risks from false positives. * Work with SAST tools, vulnerability scanners, and code\-quality platforms. * Address breaking changes introduced by security or dependency upgrades. * Document technical evidence demonstrating migration safety and completeness. ### **Customer Collaboration** * Work directly with engineers, technical leads, architects, and Platform Engineering teams. * Communicate blockers, risks, dependencies, and migration decisions clearly. * Participate in technical workshops and working sessions. * Explain migration trade\-offs to technical and non\-technical stakeholders. * Build diagnostic plans when customer environments are incomplete or ambiguous. * Support customer teams as they adopt new modernization practices. **What You Bring** ------------------ * 10\+ years of experience in software engineering or comparable hands\-on technical roles. * Strong recent experience working with enterprise Java systems. * Deep understanding of Java, the JVM, compilation, runtime behavior, classpaths, and packaging. * Demonstrable experience with Java version migrations. * Experience upgrading Spring Boot or similar enterprise frameworks. * Experience modernizing legacy, monolithic, distributed, or microservice\-based systems. * Advanced experience with Maven, Gradle, and dependency management. * Experience resolving complex direct and transitive dependency conflicts. * Experience with multi\-module builds. * Experience with Artifactory, Nexus, or private enterprise artifact repositories. * Strong CI/CD experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar tools. * Strong troubleshooting skills across code, builds, pipelines, and infrastructure. * Experience defining testing and rollback strategies for migrations. * Familiarity with vulnerability detection and remediation. * Ability to work directly with enterprise customer teams. * Strong systems thinking and evidence\-based problem\-solving skills. * Excellent English communication skills. * High autonomy and ownership. * Ability to comply with customer\-required background checks, subject to applicable local regulations. **Nice to Have** ---------------- * Experience with OpenRewrite or comparable automated transformation tools. * Experience writing or
