As a hallmark of the town are the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, built in 1706 by the Jesuits, and a roughly 700-year-old carob tree standing imposingly in the center of the plaza next to the cistern. The church, the carob tree, and the central plaza give Ischilín’s historic district a colonial atmosphere, enhanced by restored buildings, making this village a place of living history. The chapel has been declared of Provincial Interest and a National Historic Monument; the carob tree has been declared a Historic Site by the National Commission of Museums, Monuments, and Historic Places. In 1915, the French-origin artist Fernando Fader settled nearby, about eight kilometers from Ischilín, in the area known as Loza Corral. The landscapes painted by Fader gained international fame, making him responsible in modern times for maintaining Ischilín's relevance nationally and internationally through his magnificent artwork. The painter Fernando Fader’s house has been transformed into a museum house, also forming part of the cultural circuit known as the Camino de los pintores del norte cordobés (Painters' Route of northern Córdoba), highlighting the region’s significant pictorial tradition, with this site being the first destination, followed by Ischilín and the cemetery where Fader’s remains rest.
