The church, the carob tree, and the central plaza give Ischilín’s historic district a colonial atmosphere, enhanced by restored buildings, making this village a place of living history. The chapel has been declared of Provincial Interest and a National Historic Monument; the carob tree has been declared a Historic Site by the National Commission of Museums, Monuments, and Historic Places. In 1915, the French-origin artist Fernando Fader settled nearby, about eight kilometers from Ischilín, in the area known as Loza Corral.
