Job Summary: The role of a Metallurgical Engineer is critical in joining and manufacturing processes, where the creation of technical procedures and the use of advanced technologies such as laser welding are crucial. The engineer is responsible for developing and validating technical specifications to ensure product quality and safety, mastering cutting-edge technologies to optimize processes and productivity. Responsibilities: Creation of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS): Develop and validate WPS, documents detailing how a weld should be performed, leveraging knowledge of materials and their properties. Select appropriate filler materials to ensure strong, compatible joints with the base metal. Define critical welding parameters such as amperage, voltage, travel speed, and shielding gas type to achieve desired quality. Specify pre- and post-weld heat treatments to prevent defects. Oversee qualification testing (tensile, bend, radiographic tests) to ensure compliance with standards (AWS, ASME). Optimize laser welding processes by adjusting parameters such as power, speed, and beam focus. Maintain and calibrate laser equipment to ensure proper operation. Perform failure analysis on welded components using microscopy and material analysis techniques. Diagnose causes of fractures, deformations, or corrosion and propose effective solutions. Participate in quality control and destructive and non-destructive testing to ensure compliance with specifications. Validate the Procedure Qualification Record (PQR) to support WPS. Apply knowledge of physical and process metallurgy to relate composition, structure, and mechanical properties. Utilize quality standards such as ASTM, ISO, and DIN in manufacturing processes. Master advanced technologies like laser welding to optimize processes. Other assigned tasks related to metallurgical and manufacturing processes. Requirements: Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related field with relevant experience. Advanced English (written and spoken), for effective technical communication and understanding of international documentation. In-depth knowledge of metal casting and forming processes (casting, forging, rolling, extrusion) and their impact on microstructure and properties. Proficiency in physical and process metallurgy, relating chemical composition, internal structure, and mechanical properties. Experience in heat and surface treatments (quenching, tempering, annealing, nitriding). Knowledge of welding and joining methods, types of welds, defects, and industrial applications. Familiarity with standards such as ASTM, ISO, DIN governing composition, testing, and processes. Ability to conduct failure analysis and propose effective solutions. Experience in quality control and destructive and non-destructive testing. Analytical skills to diagnose issues in metallurgical components. Knowledge of advanced technologies such as laser welding. Understanding of relationships between microstructure and mechanical properties of materials. Ability to work with quality standards and industrial regulations. Effective communication skills to convey technical specifications. Ability to optimize metallurgical processes for productivity and quality. General knowledge of manufacturing processes and their impact on materials.
