





Lathe Operator – Parallel Lathe Job Summary The Lathe Operator is responsible for operating, adjusting, and maintaining parallel lathes for the manufacturing, repair, and modification of metal parts according to blueprints, technical specifications, and quality standards. Must ensure dimensional precision, operational safety, and adherence to production timelines. Main Responsibilities Prepare, mount, and adjust the parallel lathe for different machining operations. Interpret blueprints, sketches, standards, and technical specifications. Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for each job. Perform external and internal turning, facing, threading, cylindrical turning, grooving, and other required machining operations. Verify dimensions using measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, comparators, etc.). Monitor part quality throughout the process and make corrections when necessary. Maintain order, cleanliness, and safety in the work area. Report any machine malfunctions or process deviations. Collaborate with production, maintenance, and other departments as needed. \-\-\- Job Requirements Education Technical training in machining, metalworking, or related field. Specific courses in parallel lathe operation (desirable). Experience 2–5 years of proven experience as a lathe operator on parallel lathes. Experience in manufacturing one-off parts, short runs, or repairs. Technical Skills Operation of parallel lathe and basic machine adjustments. Reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints. Knowledge of cutting tools, materials, and machining parameters. Proficiency with measuring instruments and dimensional control. Basic knowledge of industrial safety and good practices in a metalworking shop.
