We are truly a ‘farm-to-table’ company, with operations spanning all aspects of agriculture—including seed production, livestock, agronomy, fertilizer manufacturing, food processing, product commercial development, and distribution. **Summary** ----------- This position serves as the liaison between the company and the growing agricultural community to secure the highest-quality raw product in support of production goals. These goals are achieved through continuous monitoring of crops in the field and warehouses; evaluating and recommending irrigation and pest controls; forecasting crop quality during the growing and storage seasons; and, at times, negotiating contracts with farmers for spot purchases. The role interacts with industry researchers and universities to foster continuous improvement in crop production. It coordinates planting, harvesting, sampling, and transportation schedules in collaboration with field staff and farmers. Work is performed with a high degree of autonomy and at the highest professional level. Assigned acreage and number of farmers may range from small to large. Administers terms of the Potato Crop Agreement contracts with farmers. Other responsibilities may include overseeing company warehouses throughout the season. **Key Responsibilities** ------------------------ * Continuous monitoring of crops in the field and in warehouses. * Evaluate and recommend water and insect control measures. * Forecast crop quality during the growing and storage seasons. * Negotiate contracts with producers for spot purchases. * Maintain pesticide records. * Coordinate planting, harvest, sampling, and transportation schedules in collaboration with field staff and producers. * Develop forecasts using historical crop data. * Advise farmers on irrigation, nutrition, and disease control programs to ensure optimal crop health. * Evaluate crop samples and adjust schedules as needed. Negotiate contracts with farmers regarding pricing, transportation, and harvest. * Build effective working relationships with Land & Livestock and Agricultural Business units. * Establish effective relationships with assigned farmers, industry partners, and university personnel. * Actively engage with industry, research institutions, and universities on crop production issues and improvement opportunities. * Stay current with emerging technological advances to ensure accurate, up-to-date information on raw product procurement and harvest efficiency. **Typical Education** --------------------- Four-year bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) **Relevant Experience** ----------------------- More than 3 years of relevant experience and/or training **Other Information** --------------------- * Demonstrated strong technical and practical knowledge of plant biological functions is preferred. * Experience in the potato industry is preferred. * Solid agricultural knowledge of planting, harvesting, and machinery. * Proficiency with computer systems. * Excellent oral and written communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills. * Ability to analyze multiple factors affecting plant growth and apply data to real-world situations.
