Reporting to senior engineering leadership, you will balance technical leadership, people management, and delivery ownership, ensuring the team delivers high\-quality, scalable backend services while continuously improving engineering practices. This role is ideal for a strong backend engineer who has transitioned (or is transitioning) into people leadership and thrives in environments handling large\-scale data and distributed systems. **Responsibilities** **What You'll Achieve** * Lead, mentor, and develop a team of backend engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement. * Own delivery and execution for your team, ensuring backend services are designed, built, tested, and supported to meet business and reliability goals. * Guide architecture and technical decisions for scalable, high\-availability backend systems and RESTful APIs running in the cloud. * Partner with Product, Architecture, and other Engineering teams to translate business requirements into clear technical plans and priorities. * Ensure best practices in code quality, testing, observability, security, and performance across backend services. * Drive the development of independent, scalable services for processing large volumes of data (ETL pipelines, data services). * Support agile ways of working, including planning, estimation, backlog prioritization, and continuous delivery. * Contribute technically when needed through design reviews, technical guidance, and hands\-on problem solving. **Qualifications** **Who You Are** * **What you'll bring with you:** + Strong experience in backend engineering, with proficiency in at least one backend language (preferably Go or Node.js). + Solid background designing and operating REST APIs, distributed systems, and data\-intensive services. + Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases and processing large volumes of data. + Hands\-on experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and cloud\-native architectures. + Knowledge of Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (preferably Terraform). + Familiarity with testing frameworks, observability, and monitoring tools. + Experience working in Agile / Scrum environments. + Previous experience as a technical lead, team lead, or engineering manager, with proven ability to mentor and grow engineers. + Comfortable working in a Linux\-based development environment. * **Why you might stand out from other talent:** + Experience with Kubernetes and service orchestration at scale. + Background in big data platforms or high\-throughput data processing systems. + Experience leading teams through system modernization or scaling initiatives.
