Today we have more than **9 million active users**, both consumers and merchants, and we’ve become a trusted brand in Venezuela, winning hearts and minds . ### **About the role** We’re looking for a Senior Database Administrator who owns the data layer that millions of people depend on every day. You’ll be the person who rules our databases, with deep hands\-on expertise across **BigQuery** and **PostgreSQL on GCP**, and the trusted point of contact who helps the rest of engineering work better with data. The role is part deep expertise and part influence. We run a multi\-domain GCP platform with around **60 PostgreSQL databases** (Cloud SQL, PostgreSQL 17, regional HA) spread across our business domains, plus **BigQuery** as our analytics warehouse fed by **Datastream** CDC pipelines. You’ll set the standards, tune slow queries, harden fragile systems, and teach developers to design schemas, queries, and access patterns that scale. As the main bridge between Core Platform and product teams, your job is to make good database practice the norm across the company, and to leave every team more capable with data than it was before. ### **Overall you will…** * Own the health, performance, and reliability of our **PostgreSQL** estate (around 60 databases on Cloud SQL), including tuning, indexing, query optimization, and capacity planning. * Be the deep expert and hands\-on owner of **BigQuery**, covering dataset design, partitioning and clustering, cost and performance optimization, and query best practices. * Act as the main point of contact between **Core Platform and other engineering teams**, guiding them on how to model, query, and operate their databases well. * Define and champion database standards for schema design, migrations, indexing, connection management, and safe change processes. * Educate and mentor developers through reviews, pairing, documentation, and internal sessions, leaving teams more self\-sufficient with data. * Own database reliability and correctness: backups, point\-in\-time recovery, HA and failover, replication, and our us\-east1 and us\-west1 DR posture. * Support our data pipelines, keeping the PostgreSQL to BigQuery flow via **Datastream** (CDC) healthy across schemas, logical decoding, and replication. * Drive database security and governance with IAM\-based authentication, least privilege, pgAudit, and secrets managed through Secret Manager. * Improve database operations through automation, working within our **OpenTofu** and **Terragrunt** Infrastructure\-as\-Code. ### **Qualifications** * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. * **5\+ years** as a DBA or database\-focused engineer, with deep hands\-on expertise in **PostgreSQL** at scale. * Strong hands\-on experience with **BigQuery**, including data modeling, partitioning and clustering, query optimization, and cost control. * Solid hands\-on experience operating databases on **Google Cloud Platform (GCP)**, ideally **Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL**. * A track record of performance tuning: query plans, indexing strategies, connection pooling, and diagnosing production issues under load. * Experience with backups, point\-in\-time recovery, high availability, replication, and disaster recovery. * A genuine teaching mindset, able to explain complex data concepts clearly and guide developers toward better practices. * Strong communication and stakeholder skills, comfortable being the bridge between platform and product teams. * Excellent problem\-solving and analytical thinking, with genuine curiosity about new technology. ### **Desirable skills** * Experience with **Datastream** or other CDC tooling feeding analytics warehouses. * Familiarity with **Infrastructure\-as\-Code** (Terraform or OpenTofu, ideally Terragrunt) for managing database resources. * Knowledge of GCP data and connectivity services such as Memorystore Redis, Pub/Sub, and Private Service Access or Private Service Connect. * Experience with **GCP Secret Manager**, IAM database authentication, and pgAudit. * Scripting in **Bash** or **Python** for database automation and operational tooling such as grants, migrations, and reporting. * Familiarity with data governance, PII handling, or compliance in a regulated context. * Experience building in fintech, payments, or credit, where data correctness matters. * Spanish and English proficiency. ### **Why you’ll love working at Cashea** At Cashea, we have a work culture based on trust and purpose.
